Just so you know, I was the Lisa (Eva Gabor) on the Green Acres show! Grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming, moved to a bunch of cities before landing right back in Sheridan. Met my Oliver (Eddie Albert) at the ripe old age of 30. Never did I dream in a million years that I would be living the life I live right now! Our real names are Brian and Shelley Kinnison, we have been blessed to be the caretakers of this little slice of heaven here in Sheridan.
We had bought and renovated a slew (17 to be exact) of properties in town, when a friend of Brian’s determined this was the perfect place for us and our two daughters.
Not quite so willingly, I moved out here. I was overwhelmed by how much we needed to do, but room by room and acre by acre it came back to life. But love? Did I love it out here? Was I giving this property all of the love it deserved? Not really, so I went to work on myself and really dug deep as to what I wanted to do with the REST of this life I had been given and how to do it here. It was a long cold winter of journaling, reading, writing, dreaming and desiring.
And thus, the Born in a Barn Creative Sale made its debut in the fall of 2011, with 7 vendors selling their repurposed, refurbished, reimagined, reloved goods for junkers to come and buy! It was a huge success. Now we’re five years in, and Born in a Barn continues to grow with vendors, music, food and community. Can’t wait to see what the future brings!
Born in a Barn weddings started with a high school friend, Stephanie Weyer’s daughter getting married. They searched high and low for a venue perfect for them, and one day driving down our lane, I said, “Or you could just have it here.” And they did! Chali and Wes Drobnez set the bar high for future weddings, and the requests started pouring in. But anyone who knows me, knows I am NOT a wedding coordinator, nor do I have one ounce of patience for drama. So I sought out a wedding planner, Ashley Rogers, and handed her the whole kit and kaboodle. She runs the show and just tells me when!
After two years of outdoor Wyoming weather and wedding drama, we decided to build our dream barn for both Born in a Barn the event and for weddings. She is 7000 square feet of gorgeousness and her name is Darling.
Brian and I believe in community, we believe in giving, we believe in service, and most of all, we believe in each other.
“I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy. I woke and saw that life is all service. I served and I saw that service is joy.”
Our community, our gift, our service and each other are all right here at 415 Highway 14, Sheridan, Wyoming.
